Christmas Sparkle and Lights Switch On, Torquay

Of all the Christmas events Torquay hosts, the one that’ll really give you that magical, Christmassy feeling is the Torquay Christmas Sparkle. Taking place in late November, the celebrations include street entertainers, the Christmas Lights Switch On, live music and a spectacular fireworks display. Christmas market stalls are in plentiful supply and there’s even a visit from the big man himself, Father Christmas. 17th November.

Come to Brixham and join in the family fun at the switching on of the Brixham Christmas Lights, an event not to be missed! For those looking for gifts, the Brixham Christmas market is a must. Hosted under a marquee and warmed by the smells of mulled wine and roasting chestnuts, this is the place to sniff out those unique gifts that you won’t find on the high street. Christmas Starlight, Babbacombe Theatre, Torquay

Seasonal Yuletide cheer is in abundance at the Babbacombe Theatre, Torquay this Christmas and New Year. With Magic, Music and Mirth, the all-new show, Christmas Starlight, promises to be a festive family treat for all to enjoy.
Traditional songs, instantly recognisable, many of them classics, albeit many with more current arrangements will be a part of the show, as will highlights from West End favourites, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sister Act & Starlight Express.

A Christmas Carol, Palace Theatre, Paignton

The winter show from Bijou Theatre Productions.
This version was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and was first presented by them in 1994. The use of a chorus moves the story along with interesting asides and oberservations, as they introduce all the well lovel and well known characters including of course miserly Scrooge, the loving Cratchets, the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future and the youthful Nephew Fred.   28th November – 1st December, 2012 – 7.30 pm

Royal Marines Christmas Spectacular, Princess Theatre, Torquay

The world famous Band of Her Royal Majesty’s Royal Marines will present a military music spectacular featuring festive music, military marches, big band hits and popular showstoppers. This entertaining band delights audiences wherever they perform and their world-renowned Corps of Drums will demonstrate the precision, accuracy and skill for which they have become famous across the globe.  Saturday 1st December, 2012 – 7.30 pm  Tickets – £18-£22

Bygones – Victorian Christmas, St Marychurch

This wonderful street where history comes to life is turned into a winter wonderland from 1st December complete with snow, festive sound system and a real 12-foot Christmas tree. From the 10th December children can make their own crackers and calendars in the café workshop.

Cockington Christmas Fayre

A real picture-postcard village, Cockington has hardly changed over hundreds of years and it’s extra special at Christmas. There’s evidence of Iron Age and Saxon settlements near the Drum Inn and the village is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Enjoy this year’s Christmas Fayre withSanta’s Grotto, Carol Singing, Craft stalls, Mulled Wine & Mince Pies.  December 9th

Paignton Zoo – Santa’s Traditional Christmas

Children and Adults will love Paignton Zoo’s traditional Christmas this year!  There will be lively performances of the ‘Crunch and Moody’ puppet show.  Santa and his busy elves will greet you in their enchanted grotto where children will receive their special Christmas present.  Don’t forget to take a ride on our festive Christmas train for a journey around the lake to see if you can spot the tigers, lions, gorillas and more…   Visiting Santa – Saturday 8th, Sunday 9th, Saturday 15th, Sunday 16th, Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd December 2012 and Christmas Eve (morning only). 10.30 am, 11.30 am or 1.30 pm. You can watch the show and meet Santa at one of the following session times (please specify when booking. Only 10.30 am and 11.30 am on Christmas Eve).

 Babbacombe Model Village – A Model Christmas with Santa and Christmas Lights

8th to 24th December – open 12noon – 7.00pm (last entry 5.00pm).  The English Riviera’s famous model village has magical Christmas lights, a snowy ice cave and Santa’s cosy log cabin.   You can paint and take home your own Christmas model (available 8th, 9th and daily 15th to 24th Dec from 1.00pm).  3 to 9yr olds can enjoy the mini artificial ski slopes and the whole family can enjoy Sleigh Ride 4D theatre shows daily.   After Christmas, when Santa has returned home to the North Pole the log cabin and ice cave will still be open to visit. Model painting goes on until 31st Dec and mini ski slope and ‘Sleigh ride’ 4D theatre is on until 6th Jan.  Prices: Adult £6.95, Senior £5.95, Child (3-14yrs) £4.95, Fam (2+2) £21.95. Santa in the Caves – Kents Cavern, Torquay

Kents Cavern is one of Europe’s top prehistoric Stone Age caves with an extensive labyrinth of spectacular and easily accessible caverns open daily all year. It’s the official underground visitor centre for UNESCO’s English Riviera Global Geopark.  At Christmas the caves are warm and dry and the Santa quest is a great reason to enjoy a family winter break on the English Riviera. Enjoy a fun family adventure around Santa’s underground grotto. There’s also a great pantomime show around the decorated caverns with interactive “pie-making” and live “present-wrapping”. Each child (2-12) meets Santa and receives a wrapped present.  From 9th December.  PRICE: One price per person (aged 2+) – £9.00.  Early bird price until 5/11/12 – £8.50.  Special prices for Annual members.  Present for 1 year olds £3.50 otherwise under 2s are free. Santa Tours 9th, 15th, 16th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th December.

Santa Steam Train, Paignton Queen’s Park Station

Arrive at the brand new station in Paignton and travel on the steam train to Kingswear (and return). During your journey a festive mince pie and glass of mulled of wine can be enjoyed by the adults, with a homemade biscuit for the children. Santa will come and visit you at your seat.  There will be various children’s rides at Paignton to keep the family entertained and our Head of Steam café will be serving your favourite winter warmers and our gift shop will be open for you to purchase some last minute gifts – with a great selection of stocking fillers too!  8th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th December, 2012  The trips depart at 11am, 1pm and 2.45pm and last 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Gingerbread House Workshop, Occombe Farm Cookery School , Paignton

Decorate your own edible Gingerbread House for Christmas in this fun family workshop led by Lori Reich. Lori will provide you with a gingerbread house, delicious decorations and ideas to help you assemble and decorate your own house to take home. You’ll need a couple of pairs of hands to complete your house –bring an older brother, sister or other family member to help you.  Date: 9th December 2012  Time: Choose from 10.30am – 1pm or 2pm – 4.30pm  Cost: £20 per house (max of 3 people to work on each house, at least one to be 12yrs+)  Booking: Essential 01803 520022

Christmas Wreath Making Workshop, Occombe Farm Visitor Centre, Paignton  Get into the festive spirit at this fun Christmas workshop and create an eye-catching wreath out of natural materials to adorn your door or a stunning table piece.  Date: 9th December 2012.  Time: Drop in between 11am – 3pm.  Cost: £5 per wreath; no booking required.

Christmas Hamper Workshop, Occombe Farm Cookery School, Paignton

Create your own wonderful Christmas Hamper full of delectable goodies for your family or to give as a present to that special person.
You will create truffles, Panforte, cranberry and pistachio biscotti, Mexican hot chocolate, pecan snowball cookies, fudge and Christmas pecan. 
We will supply suitable packaging but please bring your own hamper or basket.
